A Kind Winter in the Vineyard

The winter of 2025–2026 has been kind to the vineyard.

Across the estate, the vines have come through the season strong and healthy — a welcome gift after several years of careful establishment and recovery. Mild winter conditions allow the vines to continue building strength below the surface, deepening their roots and preparing for the growing seasons ahead.

Each block across the vineyard continues to reveal its own personality.

Dolcetto and Semillon

The Dolcetto and Semillon vines, planted in early spring of 2025, completed their first full growing season with excellent development. The young vines showed balanced, steady growth supported by carefully managed nutrition throughout the season.

At Eigner Estate, our goal is never to force growth, but to guide the vines toward balance. By encouraging measured development rather than excessive vigor, we allow the vineyard to establish the structural foundation that ultimately leads to greater fruit quality in the years ahead.

Riesling

Our Riesling block continues to thrive and remains one of the most promising sections of the estate. A few areas showed slightly more vigor than ideal, which simply means additional pruning and canopy work as we continue the process of balancing the vines individually.

A small number of vines affected by crown gall in previous seasons will be replaced this spring, filling in the few remaining gaps in the block.

Grüner Veltliner

The Grüner block continues to perform beautifully. As we have learned more about this section of the vineyard, it has revealed a greater demand for water and nutrients than some of the surrounding plantings. With careful management, the vines have settled into a healthy and balanced rhythm.

Montepulciano

The Montepulciano block continues its recovery following freeze damage from earlier seasons. With fewer buds carrying the vine's energy last year, some plants pushed particularly strong growth — a natural response as the vines rebuild strength.

Throughout 2025 we trained new shoots wherever viable growth appeared, and this coming season will allow us to continue guiding those new canes into place. A handful of vines that ultimately succumbed to crown gall will be replanted this spring.

Even in recovery, the block shows encouraging signs of renewed vitality.

Looking Ahead

Overall, the vineyard is entering the 2026 growing season in excellent condition. A mild winter has given the vines the opportunity to continue establishing balance and strength across the estate.

For a young vineyard, these quiet seasons of patient development matter. They are the years in which structure is formed, roots deepen, and the long arc of wine quality begins to take shape.

Each season builds upon the last.

And with every passing year, the vineyard moves closer to expressing the beauty of this place.
